Jacob at school

This is my classroom where I do the Strong Start program. Misty (the one giving Jacob some cheese in the pic below) cares for Jacob when I am working, and 2 mornings a week she takes Jacob and her 2 kids to my school.

Jacob likes playing in the water table, and he sure is turning into a little artist. I have paintings all over my fridge. I love that I can work and still be able to spend time with Jacob. He is a little clingy sometimes, especially at circle time, but he is usually good about going with Misty when I cant be with him.

Our house

Finally, here are some pictures of our house. I can't believe that we have been living here for over 3 months, and in Fort Nelson for almost 7. We are enjoying our time here. Even though it has been snowing all day, it does not feel super cold. I've been told that a dry cold is much more tolerable. I didnt believe it till now.
This pic was taken from the living room looking into the dining room and kitchen.

Jacob playing "broom, broom" in his room.

this is our bedroom.

The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a full unfinished basement. My hope is to put a nice playroom downstairs, but we'll see if that ever happens!

Northern Living

So we finally figured out how to work our new computer and get some pictures on it. We are not the most technological people. I will do posts more often now that we have figured this out.
So, I wanted to show everyone what we woke up to this morning. Can you believe it? A snowstorm in September! It is not super cold yet, so this snow is very wet. I just hope it doesn't stay. I was hoping for at least one more month of fall.
Jacob was not sure about all the snow, but he seemed to have a good time exploring it. And yes, he can move in his gigantic snowsuit. We have 8 months of winter here. It has to fit him until April.

Sorry about the blur!
I just realized that I have not yet posted any pictures of our house. I will try and do that very soon.

We're settled

Hello Everyone,
It has been a while since I last did a post. We were in the Okanagan for 2 weeks and now we are trying to get settled into our new home. We have almost everything organized now, and it is starting to feel like home. The only painting I did was in Jacob's bedroom. It was a very dark blue and I painted it green. It looks much better. It is so nice moving into a newer home because there is very little that we have to do to it. The basement is unfinished, so we will eventually do stuff down there, but it is not necessary at this point.
I would post some pictures for you all, but my camera is being fussy and not letting me get them onto the computer. I will keep trying though.
We are really starting to enjoy living up here in the North. We are making friends, and have been to a few barbeques already. I am thinking of having a house warming party next weekend. All you in the Okanagan are invited!!!!!!!!!! I wish you could all come and see our new home. If anyone ever feels like checking out the Northern part of our province, you are welcome to stay with us.
I've got Jacob enrolled in gymnastics next week. I will let you know how that goes. I will try and get some pics of that too. Should be fun.
Hope everyone is well. We'll be back in the Okanagan in 2 weeks. Make sure the weather is nice for us!
Love you all.

I turned my back for 2 minutes.

So, I was doing something in the living room yesterday and wasnt watching what Jacob was doing. I could hear that he was in the bathroom, but I figured he was just playing with his soap bottle as usual. When I went to go get him, this is where I found him.
He must have climbed up onto the toilet, then onto the counter. Needless to say, I keep the bathroom door closed at all times now. I dont even want to think about what would have happened if he had fallen down.

Northern Beach Party!

Today we went over to a friends house for a "beach" birthday party. It was really just a pool on the deck, but when you live somewhere without a swimmable lake in sight, you have to improvise. It was a bit of a cool day today, so the pool was filled with warm water.Jacob went in the water long enough to get his clothes wet, then decided that was enough. He had a fun time playing with the kids and eating birthday cake.
One of the moms brought a blow up jumping room. Jacob went in and jumped for about 10 seconds, then wanted out. Here he is wanting to get out, but I had to get a picture first.
Can't wait to go to the real beach when we are home in a week!
We are having lots of fun with our new friends though. We get together a couple times a week, and they all seem really nice.

Happy Canada Day

Even though the weather was miserable, our small town still put on a Canada Day Parade. We went with some friends of ours, and the kids got so much candy. Jacob got 2 freezies and a pocket full of candy. Some kids got bag fulls. He was so cute copying the other kids and picking up the candy off the ground.
I was all set to spend at least an hour watching the parade. That is what I am used to from the Peach fest parade. We had our chairs set up, I had snacks ready for Jacob, and the thing lasted about 10 minutes. After that we put Jacob down for a nap, then there was a free community barbeque that was moved to an empty warehouse because of the weather. We then went over to friends house and had a few drinks and pizza. It is so nice to have friends and just hang out somewhere besides our apartment. Jacob enjoyed playing with the kids, although he did get pushed and bumped his head on the corner of the door jam. He got a major goose egg on his forehead and the boy's mom felt so bad. The boy is almost 2, so I understand it is a wonderful characteristic of terrible twos. Today Jacob's head has a small scratch, and is barely bruised. He heals quickly.

We have had such terrible weather here. I cant believe it is July and we are all wearing pants and jackets. I cant wait until we come home in 2 weeks.

Today we went to a Regional Park that is about a half hour south of town. Jacob loves to be outside, so even though the weather was not great, we took him to play at the lake. Jacob had fun throwing rocks and sticks into the water. This lake is not swimmable, but it would be a nice place to have a picnic and a fire.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Fathers Day to all you dads. I hope you all had a wonderful day and enjoyed a great time with your families. We decided to once again go check out the museum here in town. They have a lot of old trucks and tractors outside of the property. We had a very nice time checking it all out. Jacob especially. He was into everything. It is so fun to watch him. He is curious about everything he sees.

Here he is trying to climb onto an old motorcycle.

Driving an old snowmobile.
Below is a picture of the three of us on the snowmobile, but it turned out a little dark.

The thing I liked most about the museum was watching all the tourists. There were people from all over, because we are right on the Alaska Highway. I saw plates from Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. It was neat to hear the southern accents. I guess I take after my mom, I'm a people watcher!
All in all, we are starting to enjoy it up here. I am starting to meet more people, and look forward to getting to know them better. There is a parade planned for July 1st with lots of fun stuff happening at the park. I'm looking forward to it. This town definitely has a great sense of community. Now I just have to get used to the bugs. (Yuck!)

Yummy!

Here are a few pictures of Jacob enjoying his first popsicle. It has been so hot here, and I thought he would like a sweet way to cool down. He absolutely loved the popsicle and ate every last drop, practically gagging himself with the popsicle stick.

All Done!
On another note, we have looked at a few houses, and there are some with possibilities. It seems there is one thing wrong with each one. If we could just take a few features from each house and create one ourselves, that would be great. Our realtor said that she knows of 2 houses that are just coming onto the market that would probably work for us. We are going to see them tomorrow evening. Hopefully they work out. They are both older, but look like they have decent yards and both have a shop for Jason to tinker on his trucks.
We'll keep you up to date on our house hunt.

Fa La La La La...

Oh...Silly me. It's not December...It's May!!!!!
Can you believe that we woke up to an inch of snow yesterday morning. I couldn't believe it. And it has been so cold. You definitly have to wear at least a sweatshirt when you go outside. This is just ridiculous. I can't wait to come home and go to the beach.
Jacob and I will be home on Monday, and will spend most of the time packing up the house. Jason will be coming on the 27th to help pack up all his tools and stuff. The three of us will then fly back here together on Wednesday, May 30th.
Can't wait to be back in the Okanagan. The weather better be good.
See you all soon.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day everyone. I hope that all you mommies had a great day. We had a very nice day. Jason had the day off, so we went out for a Mother's day brunch at the Fort Nelson Hotel. The setting was very nice, although the service was not so hot. I'm just glad that we were able to enjoy the day as a family.

After Jacob's nap, we walked to the park. It was such a beautiful day, and of course Jason complained about how hot it was. I thought it was just perfect. There isn't even a lot of bugs out yet. It is very tolerable to spend time outside at this time of year.
Jacob loves going to the park and watching the other kids. He is getting so independant and tries to do everything on his own. Climbing the ladder, going down the slide, and standing up on this rocking toy below. We have to remind him that he is still little and that he needs help. I'm sure I will be in the emergency room with broken bones more that once. He seems to have no fear. Here are some pictures of us at the park. All in all, we had a very nice day.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

SOLD!

Well, we finally sold our house. 3 months with no offers, then 2 offers in one day. It worked out well because we got our asking price for it. What a relief. Now we can start looking for a house here and get out of this one bedroom apartment. The closing date is June 28th, but we'll have the house empty when we come home in May. We're hoping that Jason can come home for a few days as well to pack up all his tools. We'll put everything in storage there until we find a house here. Then we will rent a u-haul truck and move everything up here once we have a house to put it in.
Hope everyone is well. I may be asking for help in the next 2 weeks for help moving stuff into storage. I will have no vehicle when we are home, so help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

We're coming home!

Hello everybody,
Jacob and I are coming home for a week in May. We'll be home from May 21 to 28th. I just need to do some things around the house that will hopefully make a difference in selling it. Also, Jason has been working such long days that I just need to get out of this apartment. It is tight living in a one bedroom apartment. I just really want our house to sell so that we can buy a house here. That will be a big help in meeting people if we were in a family oriented neighbourhood.
I have posted these pictures of Jacob sleeping because I am sad to say that we are down to one nap a day. I have so enjoyed the morning and afternoon nap, but now he just has one midday nap, and sometimes it is less than 2 hours, although sometimes it is 3 hours. He is definitely ready for bed at 7:30, which is nice. Then Jason and I have our time together in the evening. I love my little man to bits, but he has been showing his temper so much lately and it's driving me crazy. I enjoy my downtime when he is sleeping.
We can't wait to see everybody in 3 weeks. Mommies, we'll have to get all the kids together for a playdate.

My sleeping angel.
(Isn't he just adorable!)

Nothing better to do...

Up north there is nothing better to do that sit around in a laundry basket. Just kidding! We've actually been trying to get out of the house everyday. The weather has been great (about 16-18 everyday). The only problem with that is that the bugs are now starting to come out. Nothing major yet, but I can imagine what is about to come.
We went to the Alliance church on Sunday. The service was incredibly boring, but there were so many people our age there. They say the service is not usually like that, so we will try again on Sunday. Today, Jacob and I went swimming at the pool. The schedule said it was parent and tot time, so I thought I might meet some young moms. Nope! There was one girl with a 4 year old, and then an elementary school class doing swimming lessons. I did find out that there is a park not too far away, so I guess I'll have to hang out there to meet people.
My other thought was to possibly get on a sublist for some daycares in town. Turns out there is only 3 daycares here, and I think they are all family ones in peoples home. Maybe that is a reason that I am here. To start up a quality child care centre. That would be a great way for me to meet people. It is something I would need to think about and research because I dont want to work full time and I still want to come home as often as possible.
Anyway, that's what's happening here. I hope you are all doing well.
Bye for now.

Our new home

Well, we made the long trip up North. The drive was very long. We took three days to get here, a little less than 20 hours driving total. Considering the long, boring days, Jacob travelled very well. I am glad though to finally be here, and get back onto a schedule. Above is the apartment that we will live in temporarily until we can buy a house here. Our apartment is the second story patio on the right hand side. You can see our truck in the parking lot on the right. As you can see, there isn't that much snow here anymore. The weather is actually very mild. Everything is very wet and muddy though because of all the melting snow. The next few pictures are of the inside of the apartment. We are squishing everything into a one bedroom apartment, but it seems to work. All three of us are sharing a bedroom. So far it is working out just fine. My main complaint right now is that I havent been able to do a load of laundry because there is always someone else using it.
This is the bedroom that the three of us share.

Kitchen, dining room, entry door is on the left.

Living room, door to patio.
You may wonder why the door is open and Jacob is only wearing a onesie. They keep the heat in the apartment hallway so hot, that it heats the apartment so much. Our heat is off, and we are just cooking in here. And you all thought we would be cold!
It has been a nice transition for us. Jason has not gone back to work yet, so we have worked together to unpack and get settled. He will go back to work tomorrow, and they say that they should be able to keep him fairly busy. I will go and check out the Alliance church on Sunday, and hopefully we can find some other things to do during the week.
Hope you're all enjoying the Okanagan sun. We miss you all already.
Love you!!!!!!!!!!!

Jacob's Last Day of Daycare

Jacob has really enjoyed his time at daycare. It took him a little while to get used to the fact that I couldn't pick him up whenever he wanted, but now he does just fine. He seems to really like other children, and copies everything. He learned how to climb up and go down the slide just from watching the other kids do it.

Here he is giving the kids goodbye hugs. I think that he will be missed by the
other children as much as he will miss them. It is going to be very nice that we
will get to spend all our time together now, but I think we will both miss daycare
just a little.

Goodbye Friends!
